Woman dies after clothing catches fire in Koreatown apartment

A woman apparently burned to death in her swanky Koreatown apartment after lighting her clothes ablaze while cooking Monday afternoon, police sources said.

The 34-year-old woman was cooking in her apartment in Tower 31, a 42-story luxury high-rise on W. 31st between Broadway and Fifth Ave. at about 3:15 p.m. when her clothes caught fire, sources said.

She ran around her apartment, and ended up in the bathroom.

Her neighbors called 911 after they heard a smoke detector go off and smelled smoke, police sources said.

Police found her dead in the bathroom, her chest covered in burns, police said.

The city medical examiner’s office will determine her cause of death, though police do not suspect foul play, sources said.
