One police officer was killed and another wounded when gunfire erupted after a car crash in Southern California.
A suspect was also wounded Monday morning during the shooting in Whitter, southeast of Los Angeles, according to police.
The surviving officer is in stable condition, though the suspect’s condition was unknown as of noon local time, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
Police were called to a crash before the shooting and that the suspect was driving a stolen car, the station reported.
It was not immediately clear what started the shooting, though Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lisa Jansen told the Daily News that the suspect is a known gang member.
Video from KTLA showed windows on a Whitter Police Department SUV shattered, and debris scattered across the road.
A long gun was seen on the trunk of another car, a silver sedan with heavy damage to its front.
