Newark Airport all clear after evacuation due to pressure cooker

Authorities ordered a partial evacuation of Newark Liberty Airport Saturday after cops discovered a suspicious pressure cooker in a shopping bag, officials and a law enforcement source said.

Police found the device on the third level in Terminal A around 4:45 p.m., according to officials and the source.

Cops later determined that there was no threat and gave an all-clear around 6 p.m., officials said.

Alarmed passerby’s notified cops when they saw a paper shopping bag sitting by itself near a stone garbage can and a responding K9 officer quickly spotted the pressure cooker inside, the source said.

Cops ordered people to clear out an area of the terminal near the departure gates, officials said.

One person at the terminal, who only gave their name as Lori, said that people were calm and orderly as they were evacuated.

Police seized the cooker and were waiting to see if anyone would claim the property, a law enforcement source said.

The source added that cops were also looking into the possibility that the device may have been left unattended to test the police response.
